Developments

Well, I got my new PC up and running ;-) It needs some work - sound card switched over from the old PC (which can run on AC97), a second HDD, a floppy drive, and my nice new 256mb graphics card (currently running onboard SIS graphics), maybe a fan here and there. Still won't be any sort of showstopper, but MUCH better than the old one - I have currently been playing Battlefield 1942 quite smoothly (albeit with everything turned down), and thats just with the onboard gear. Can't wait to put the new stuff in and run Call of Duty and Medal of Honour - damn I miss those games!

Anyways, it is monopolising the computer desk so I have to make other arrangements for the old PC, which will continue to be the modding PC. Yvy will get the new one to herself, practically, especially since it will also be the net-connected PC (once we get an internet deal going). Very little time for such things - I am currently in the middle of a 25 hour work stretch (3 hours off here and there). Very little time to do things like chase up the best cable net deal, and of course no PC to do it on (except this one here at work).

Other matters: cheeky said her first word! She said "yeah" several times. Damn she has been cute lately. If I wasn't so tired, I would write about what happened in Malaysia - she was like a minor celebrity, we would go out places and she would get mobbed, she is just so cute. I kid you not - it went from amazing to bizarre to quite scary, the way people would come running over to see her (and grab her, cuddle her, pass her round - talk about a different culture). Such a gorgeous child with beautiful alabaster skin, they had never seen anything like it (pale skin is big in Asia - they use skin-paling creams almost as much as white folks worry about tanning, and many hate getting darker in the sun - weird). It had to be seen to be believed.

Heh - tired or not, I wrote about it anyway :-) Briefly.

Got a couple more comics up my sleeve, but first gotta find where my dad put the Photoshop CD. And the Call of Duty CDs (I bought the Gold edition). And the Medal of Honour - Pacific Assault CDs my bro gave me some Christmases back (a poor cousin to Allied Assault, but I would like to at least try it on a machine that can half do it justice). And my non-Steam version of Day of Defeat...

Kecik! 73

Heh... Kecik has started to develop her daddy's taste in black humour...

This is being posted from Malaysia, hence the different fonts - I use Gorilla Milkshake back home (as used in Erfworld. But speaking of comix, what about Goblins? How damn good has that been lately? The previous issue had one of the best Paladin scenes I've seen:

Thac0: What are you doing???
Big Ears: My job.

Priceless.)

But I digress. I have a couple more in the bag, so Kecik! isn't done yet :-)

Also, this was made with ArcSoft's Photostudio, whatever that is. Very similar to Photoshop but nowhere near as good. It also limits severely what I can do in terms of last-moment tweaks, so sorry this is so blurry and hard to read.

Back in Malaysia

Wow, haven't powered up this blog for a while! A sad testament to my lack of comedic skills - I just ran out of jokes for Kecik. O well. I do have a couple of tutorials on the backburner but they will have to wait.

So here I am: the family is together again. Yvy and Arianna came over here 3 weeks before me and I tells ya, it was 3 weeks of hell without my little cheeky 8^( Not least because I had to move house by myself: my poor legs felt like they would never make it, and I pulled something in my left back carrying the very last box up the 3 flights of stairs to our new place, albeit that wasn't serious and is gone now.

So whats happening here? Well, just spending time with family. Next week we go to a hotel in Penang for a few days of luxury R&R: I'll see how cheeky goes in the kiddy pool (she loves bath time - easily her favourite time of the day - but hasn't enjoyed the kiddy pool we bought her, it made her cry).

She is doing fine. She has learnt to sit up for long periods, as well as rolling over all over the place (she only rolled over for the first time just before they left). So she can sit with her toys in front of her and play with them - gorgeous to watch.

On to other matters. Here is a bird.

Cute little thing. They are everywhere here in Kulim. They act like they look - small and very flighty, hopping aruond and on the go in the manner of small birds the world over, I dare say. I think there would be a market for them in Oz - people who like finches would like these since they are fairly similar in behaviour (or so it seems to me) and while not so colourful, they are also not so loud and have a chirping song very different to anything in Oz. They sound more like the local lizards (who are everywhere - even in the most expensive hotels - and laugh at you). A few of these would be a very pleasant addition to any amatuer aviary.

Speaking of photos, here's something:

Well of course with a promise of joy, and at only 1 Ringgit (a can of Coke is around 1.80) I could hardly pass this up. But it was a scam - it was just a fizzy lemon drink, nothing special at all and too sweet. To paraphrase Monty Burns, I believe I would have more joy if I'd kept the Ringgit.

Final pic - one of my little cheeky. She has discovered mirrors - so cute!

We'll be back on the 18th. I start my second job immediately after: we've made our first payment on the mortgage, and in 30 years I can afford to die.
